Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day: A Meaningful Celebration at SMP

August 2026 marked a special and historic month for all Indonesians, as the nation proudly celebrated its 81st Independence Day. Joining the nationwide celebration, SMP Edu Global actively took part in commemorating this meaningful occasion through two special events: the 81st Indonesian Independence Day Flag Ceremony and a series of Independence Day Competitions. The first event was the Independence Day Flag Ceremony, held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. at Taman Putri Field. The school worked closely with the event coordinator, Mr. Ir. Sukandi Tanudirdja (Head of RT 07), Malabar Subdistrict, to ensure the ceremony was carried out smoothly and meaningfully.
The ceremony involved selected SMP Edu Global students who took on various roles as ceremony officers. They underwent dedicated training led by William Ishaq Juarsyah Gusti N, who brought experience in basic military education and training. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the teachers, the Student Government, as well as residents from RT 05, RT 06, and RT 07 of RW 07. The flag-raising team consisted of Muhammad Alvino Yusuf (Grade IX-A), Meisya Nur Pusfita (Grade IX-B), and Rafa Nadhif Getisandi (Grade IX-C), who served as part of the Ten-Member Flag-Raising Formation, commanded by Alceo Rafisqy Argana Kunrat (Grade IX-A). The ceremony itself was led by Narendra Pradi Trimurdani (Grade IX-C) as the Ceremony Commander.
Adding to the solemn and heartfelt atmosphere, the SMP Edu Global Choir, under the guidance of Coach Indah, performed three beloved Indonesian songs: Hari Merdeka, Indonesia Pusaka, and Halo-Halo Bandung. The ceremony was led by Mr. Ir. R. Denny Widyawan PS, Head of RW 07, as the Ceremony Inspector. Two days later, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the celebration continued at SMP Edu Global, Jalan Gatot Subroto No. 38, with a fun-filled series of Independence Day competitions. The activities brought together all SMP Edu Global students, school staff, and representatives from the Foundation. The competitions included Marching Formation, Pancing Kerupuk (Cracker Fishing), Tepok-Tepok Ikan Merdeka, Rantai Air Nusantara (Nusantara Water Chain), Corong Air (Water Funnel), and Tug of War. Beyond the excitement of competition, the activities encouraged students to develop teamwork, communication, discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship, all while enjoying the spirit of togetherness.
What made this celebration especially meaningful was the strong collaboration between teachers and students throughout the preparation and implementation of the events. The successful cooperation created a positive impression among the local community while bringing genuine joy to the children. More than simply celebrating Indonesia's Independence Day, these activities provided our students with opportunities to experience and practice important values such as unity, responsibility, cooperation, respect, discipline, and sportsmanship in a real-life setting. At SMP Edu Global, we believe that meaningful education extends beyond the classroom. Through experiences like these, students are encouraged to grow not only academically, but also as confident, responsible, collaborative, and caring individuals who are ready to contribute positively to society. As we celebrate 81 years of Indonesian independence, may this spirit continue to inspire all of us and especially the younger generation, to become the best generation for the future of Indonesia.
