Beyond the Classroom: EGS Grade 8 Students Explore Singapore and Malaysia
Learning becomes more meaningful when students have the opportunity to experience the world firsthand. From February 26 to March 2, 2024, Grade 8 students of SMP Edu Global School Bandung embarked on an exciting overseas visit to Singapore and Malaysia. More than just a trip, this journey provided valuable opportunities for students to explore new places, experience different cultures, develop independence, and broaden their global perspectives.
Exploring Singapore Through Real-World Experiences
The journey began in Singapore, where students visited several renowned destinations, including the Art Science Museum, NEWater, Gardens by the Bay, and Universal Studios Singapore. Each destination offered a different perspective on learning. Students explored the relationship between art and science, discovered the importance of water sustainability, experienced innovative urban green spaces, and enjoyed interactive attractions that encouraged curiosity and creativity. One of the most memorable moments was the students’ cultural performance at a university campus in Singapore. Through this performance, they had the opportunity to showcase Indonesian cultural heritage to a wider audience while developing their confidence, stage presence, and appreciation for cultural diversity.
Discovering New Learning Environments in Malaysia
The overseas visit continued in Malaysia with a visit to MAHSA International School. This experience introduced students to a different educational environment and gave them an opportunity to engage with a school community beyond Indonesia. By experiencing learning activities in a new setting, students were encouraged to broaden their perspectives, communicate with others, and become more adaptable to different environments. The visit also highlighted the value of international connections and learning from cultural differences.
Developing Independence and Confidence
Beyond visiting exciting destinations, the overseas program offered valuable opportunities for students to develop essential life skills. Being away from their familiar surroundings encouraged students to practice independence, manage their belongings, follow schedules, and take greater responsibility for themselves. Performing in front of an international audience helped them build courage and self-confidence, while interacting with different cultures fostered respect, empathy, and open mindedness. These experiences demonstrate that education goes beyond academic achievement. Real world learning also plays an important role in shaping students’ character and preparing them to face new challenges.
Preparing Students for a Global Future
The five day journey to Singapore and Malaysia was more than an overseas trip. It was an opportunity for Grade 8 students of SMP Edu Global School Bandung to explore new perspectives, embrace cultural diversity, and discover their potential beyond the classroom. At Edu Global School, we believe that meaningful learning happens both inside and outside the classroom. By providing opportunities for international exposure and cultural exchange, we aim to nurture independent, confident, and open minded learners who are ready to engage with an increasingly interconnected world. The experiences and lessons gained throughout this journey will remain valuable long after the trip has ended, serving as a reminder that every new place offers an opportunity to learn, grow, and see the world differently.
